Music Department, University of Athens (http://en.music.uoa.gr/)

      The Department of Music Studies, created in 1992, belongs to the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and has about 25 members of full time staff. It has a strong research profile in many scientific disciplines related to the study of music. Areas of expertise include istorical and systematic musicology, ethnomusicology and cultural anthropology, aesthetics and philosophy, music technology and informatics, and byzantine musicology.

      The Department offers a five - year undergraduate degree in Music Studies, as well as an inter-departmental Masters Course entitled "Music Culture and Communication: Anthropological and Communicational Approaches to Music", in collaboration with the Department of Communication and Media of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. More Masters degrees are foreseen for the near future. The Department also has a large active community of PhD students in all areas of research.

      The Lab of Music Technology and Acoustics forms part of the Department of Music Studies. The members of staff associated with the Lab are active  esearchers in the areas of musical acoustics, music and mathematics, music technology, music information retrieval and music cognition. They also teach about twenty modules in the undergraduate and postgraduate degree related to their research interests, and students who take these modules graduate with a specialization on music technology.

Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, University of Athens (www.di.uoa.gr)

      The Department of Informatics and Telecommunications belongs to the School of Sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and has 42 full-time faculty members, over 135 PhD candidates and 180 research associates. It includes three Sectors: Theoretical Informatics, Computer Systems & Applications and Communications & Signal Processing. It is highly involved in numerous National and International funded research and development projects. The Department is ranked among the top 100 of World Universities in Computer Science - 2010 by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. The research activities of the Department include among others, the domain of Voice and Music Computing with emphasis in algorithms and systems for Speech, Singing, Audio and Music processing and applications.

      The Onassis Cultural Centre is Athens’ new cultural space hosting events and actions across the whole spectrum of the arts from theatre, dance, music and the visual arts to the written word, with an emphasis on contemporary cultural expression, on supporting Greek artists, on cultivating international collaborations and on educating children and people of all ages through life-long learning.

             Institute for Research on Music and Acoustics (www.iema.gr)

      The Institute for Research on Music and Acoustics (IEMA) - Greek Music Information and Documentation Centre is a non-profit, non-government organization aiming to develop and support research in the field of music and acoustics, support contemporary music creation and provide systematic information, documentation and education in these domains.

      Founded in 1989, the Institute is the result of a common initiative from musicians and musicologists who created this organization according to those found abroad. During the last years, IEMA has established a permanent cooperative relationship with the Greek ministries of Culture, Education and Research. It is currently the most active organization involved in music research, information and documentation within Greece.

      A continuous strand in IEMA's vision is the use of new research methods and advanced new technology for the Institute's realization of objectives.
